Why do men most of the time walk ahead of women?

Why do men most of the time walk ahead of women? (some of them)
Is it kind of respect or what?

If the man considered as a body gurad for her then isn't be better to talk with her so he will know what is going on?!

About this issue I think that some men not all of them of course like to take control of every thing including women.. all of that because they want to feel powerful while they are weaker than what they think. They are sick probably, I mean psychologically.

On the other hand, I remember an english poet named "Alexander Pope" blamed the woman of being abused by the men. He justified that by saying the the reason behind her abused is the society understanding of the woman rights. Also because she always cry instead of defending for her rights.

thanks my sister shatha for this nice thread and I wanna tell ya somthin that who does that of men because some of girls need that from them I mean they need some body walks ahead of them so there is a group and that group has tow parts of pepole the first part is men and the other part is girls and both of them has same situation so that group likes to play that game but who part is gonna win?? both of them is gonna be damage and loss each other so no feasibility :o( just loss their time .. also one thing has to be sayin that in our present I mean now the girls who walk ahead of men .. *XX* ...

I need to know why is the man always walk couple of meters ahead of the woman while she is always walking behind him , is there some reason behind that, I mean is it haram or shame for them to walk side by side?

I’m not a religious to say whether it is ( Haram ) or not if a man

walked behind a woman , but I don’t think so .


What I guess is : the reason is to avoid looking at her all the time or

- steering - at her while he’s walking. And this considered as a kind of

shyness . I remember the story of the prophet ( Mosa - Alayh alsalam) ,

when the woman asked him to follow her going to her father , and

the prophet Mosa walked in front of her, cuz he was afraid that her dress

moved a little by the air and show a part of her body.

( That’s what they have told us in the school !! )


But in case if they ( the man & woman ) know their each other , like if

they are married or have some kind of family relationship, I think they

should walk side by side . it looks better if they do so , especially if

they’re a couple , to show how close to each other they are.


That’s enough for today, I guess so let me stop until here and see

i had to see couples or brother and sister walking together,, but in fact they don't!
the man usually walks faster than the woman, but i think he should care for her specially if she had kids, slow down, we are not racing
and what bothers is that, when a man goes out with his wife or sister he wants to secure her, right? so if he is walking ahead of her, he won't know anything of what is happening and even if that woman gets harm or heard a word from another man she won't tell, cuz she doesn't want to make troubles between her man and others, but if a strange man see someone walking by her side, then he won't be able to say or do anything...
that is what i think ... it shouldn't be true though *XX*

Thank you my sister Alaali for your thread, and I would be happy to participate you.

first of all, please don't be closeminded and misinterpret my opinion. I think it's true that the men should walk ahead and take the lead in most situations, and this is not just my opinion, the god says that in his book(ALQURAN) "...الرجال قوامون على النساء... ".

However, not all people follow this (Ayah), beacouse in foreign countries such as USA or other countries have similar law, which gives the women the same rights as the men.
We can't say that this is right thing to do(to give women same as women).Because we have different traditions and law.

To sum up, this situation happens only when the men get married, but when they're single they usually give the chance to women to go first and walk ahead (Laidies First :cold:)

I am just looking for the things that they achives.
The woman can lead the man if she would, also the man can.
but our religion specialized the man to lead the woman, that he can
solve any case in any situation, and he has been choosed to take
every dicissions. He can drive? woman can do it.He can learn?
woman also can do it. He can prove himself in anywhere?

first of all i'd like to thank my dear sis shatha for joining us in our forum and we're grateful for providing us with a such contribution :).
and my comment on this topic is like the following ...
from my point of view i find that walking in front of strange women is an important point that men should put in their minds ":H".We knew this from the prophet mohammed ( peace be upon him ).It is to protect the man's sight from looking at the woman in a suspicious way**:I just as my brother al manhal said .And in the case of being behind the woman: in this situation the man mustn't look at the back of the woman in order not to commit any :eek:( Haram ).
on the other hand , when the man and the woman are a couple ,7,: I think walking beside each other depends on how harmonious they are, so we can refer this point to the psychological side .Thus if they agree with each other, they would love to walk and to talk together *D:*.
and if they are not they're going to be as our friend shatha started her topic .
from my opinion the whole situation needs some love and respect :)in order to be with each other all the time , no step before no step after

Ur right Walae but that won't be true, coz not always they walk ahead of women
For example, when the man does not know the way to where he's going but the woman does(in an organisation for example!), than she will walk ahead instead to guide him

This phenomenon doesn't depend on the religion...
and I don't think that there is commencing in Islam says that it's not legal for the man to walk beside his relatives girls as his sisters, aunts or his wife.
We got open minded and free handed to do any thing we want Nowadays... It's not a big deal guys
